Atriplex hortensis cupreata

     

This plant grew taller than our 6 foot fence.

Foliage plant grown for its dark colour - purple foliage and reddish purple flower spikes.

We've had quite a variety of heights with this plant. From 30 inches to 6 feet. Most typical height was 4 feet tall.  On a 6 foot tall plant, width is about 30".  They can get pretty big.

Grown this for two years. Started from seed in '98, then retained some self-seeded plants in '99' (wow, does this thing ever self-seed).  Won't grow it again for that reason. Atriplex hortensis is listed as noxious weed in Manitoba.

If I want to grow an annual with purple/maroon foliage, will instead grow Perilla frutescens.
