Actaea rubra - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

Erect, bushy plant with showy clusters of red or white berries in mid-summer. Flowers are white, borne in dense racemes, with a slight fragrance. Flowers to 15 mm diameter, racemes to 3 cm long. Leaves compound, leaflets oval, deeply incised, terminal leaflets measured to 6 cm long and 6 cm wide. Stems glabrous, petioles hairy, leaflets with a few hairs on top, hairy on bottom of leaflets.

Common in rich woodlands.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 100 cm. I've measured plants to 82 cm tall.
