Flower extends beyond bracts as shown above

Erect plants with flowers appearing in colourful flower spike or spikes. Colourful inflroescence are due to the bracts which surround the flowers. The green flowers to 3 cm long, reddish-pink bracts, toothed, clasp the flower. Inner bracts next to the flower are 2 cm long.

Leaves lanceolate, alternate, sessile, typical leaf measured at 5.5 cm long, and 1.5 cm wide. Leaves with haris on margins, pubescent with very short hairs on leaf tops, glabrous on leaf bottoms. Plant stems sparsely hairy.

Height listed in the guides from 30 to 60 cm, tallest plants in above photos were 73 cm tall.

The above photos were taken June 28th, highway ditch south of La Ronge 600 km north of Regina, SK, and road side ditch in Duck Mountain provincial park, 300 km north east of our home in Regina, SK.
