Erect plants with racemes of striking, long-spurred, purple blue flowers. Flowers measured at 3.5 cm diameter. Flowering begins mid-May. Plants pubescent. Leaves deeply cleft into linear segments which we measured to 4 mm wide. Stem leaves measured at 6.5 cm diameter .

Quite common in the Cypress Hills, on hillsides, and openings in the woods. We've also seen them growing near Wood Mountain. For the province, is listed as rare to uncommon (S2S3) by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.

Height listed in Budd's Flora from 15 to 50 cm. Plant featured in above photograph was 27 cm tall.
