Plant has long flowreing stems, with few branches. Flowers terminal, 1 to 3, often nodding, flowers reddish purple in colour, 1 cm long and 1 cm in diameter. Basal leaves are lyrately pinnate, to 30 cm long (including petiole) and 13.5 cm wide. Stem leaves divided into 3 leaflets. The stem leaflets are cuneate, toothed, leaflets measured to a length of 11 cm long and 4 cm wide. Stems pubescent.

Common. Habitat is swamps, marshes and stream banks.

Listed in Budd's Flora to a height of 60 cm. Plant in above photo was measured at 63 cm tall.
