Flowering stems with leaves

Leafy stemmed, robust plants. Flowers white, often with a blush of pink, with yellow throat and a few purple stripes, lateral petals bearded. Leaves cordate with a sharp apex, leaf blade 7 cm long and 8 cm wide. Stems glabrous, leaf margins and bottom of leaves with hairs on nerves.

Common to wood groves and shrubby, shaded areas.

Height listed in Budd's Flora from 20 to 60 cm. Plant in above photo was 28 cm tall.

Taxonomic key to Saskatchewan's violets.

Took the above photos May 20th in mixed woods in the Cypress Hills, 450 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
