Spiraea alba - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

An erect shrub with dark reddish-brown stems. Flowers are a white, grow in a terminal raceme, have 5 petals, flowers measured to 7 mm in diameter, raceme about 4 cm long. Blooms in late July, through August. Leaves are alternate, oblanceolate, sharply toothed, dark glossy green.

Flowers have a sweet fragrance.

Habitat is scrubby grassland areas with good moisture.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 100 cm.

The above photos were taken July 25th at the Maclean Wildlife Refuge 60 km E of Regina, and at White Butte, 25 km E of Regina, SK.
