Draba aizoides

Two plants in above photo, a small one with one flower stem just below the larger plant

Little plant for the rock garden, with bright yellow flowers in dense clusters. Very early, about middle of April in our zone 3 garden. Leaves are lance-shaped and form a central mound giving the plant a tufted growth habit. Flowers have the 4 petals typical of plants in the Mustard family.

A have a reference book that says this plant is evergreen, although I didn't notice that in our plants, it's likely true. Also says sharp drainage is a must. Many evergreen perennials do not do well in our climate, and our plants did not look terribly healthy after winter.

We grew the above plants from seed. Plants in the photos are still young, only in their 2nd or 3rd year from seed.

Hardy zone 3.

Height is 3" to 4", eventual spread of 10".

Glen's score:  7.
