Gentiana acaulis

Large, solitary, deep blue flowers in spring. If you like blue flowers, you'll especially like this plant. Because of its prostrate growth habit, really should be grown in a rock garden for the best effect.

I have one reference that says this plant should be located in neutral to alkaline soil in full sun, and, another reference that says it should be in acidic soil in partial shade - full sun will burn the plant. What to do? I planted it in partial shade in rich, neutral soil in my rock garden where it has good drainage. I also have it near a sprinkler head to ensure it receives regular watering.

Hardy zone 4.

Height of 10 cm, eventual spread of 25 cm.

Glen's score:  8.
