Meconopsis x sheldonii

Sky blue flowers at the end of June. We planted these in 1999, bloomed in 2000. Quite the plant.

Lots of violet colouring in our plants. I have seen a number of photos of this plant in various books, never as much violet colour as we had.

Plant is of garden origin, is a cross between M. betonicifolia and M. grandis.

We are growing them in a the shadiest, coolest spot in our garden, in very rich soil - pure manure with some peat moss.

Rated cold hardy to zone 5 or 6  (too conservative I think).

Height is 30", spread of about 12".

Glen's score:  8.
