Penstemon pinifolius

Scarlet, tubular flowers and coniferous-looking, needle like, evergreen foliage. Plant's foliage has a decumbent growth habit.

This plant was new to us in 1999. We were able to overwinter one of two plants, the one that survived was suffering from desiccated foliage. This is a problem we have on the Canadian Prairies, where cold, sunny days in winter often will desiccate evergreen plants.

We are growing this in full sun in our rock garden.

Hardy zone 4.

Height of 10", spread of 12" in its second year.

Glen's score:  7.
