Primula cortusoides

Two plants in bloom in early June in our garden.

Several dozen magenta-coloured flowers displayed in umbels above a rosette of leaves. Blooms towards the end of May here in zone 3, and blooms for a very long time - the longest of all the Primula species that we grow. Leaves are a light, yellow-green colour.

Our friend Dorothy gave us several of these seedlings in 1999, and above photos from 2001 show the flowers of just one plant - a good show already eventhough not all of its flowers had yet opened!

Like our other Primula, we grow it in shade, with humus rich soil.

Hardy to zone 3 or 4. Is native to eastern Europe to Siberia.

Grows about 10" in height, spread 12".

Glen's score:  9 of 10.
