Salvia lyrata 'Purple Knockout'

Great foliage plant - new foliage is reddish-purple, and with age becomes dark purple.

Blooms aren't the greatest in my opinion.  Greenish tubular flowers with purple tips... to me they look as though the blooms have already fallen off the plant.  But who cares, the foliage is the thing with this one.

Dwarf growth habit, about 12" in height, spread of about 10".  We have this growing in full sun in our rock garden.  The Jelitto seed catalogue say this plant is tolerant of poor soils.

Hardy to zone ???.  Haven't been able to overwinter, but has been a reliable self-seeder over the last two winters, giving me an adequate supply of plants each year for my garden.

Glen's score:  7.
